July 19, 2006 at 1:55 pm #1083300a lot of people build there own soundsystems
it’s expensive and time consuming, but very rewarding when you’ve built a beauty
look out on ebay for second hand parts
speakerplans.com has loads of good advice
July 19, 2006 at 3:16 pm #1083303We used to do a few small free partys and found a lot less aggro from OB if we held em on days coinciding with carnivals, fairs or other largish public events. If that helps:wink:

keep an eye on the ads on here and squatjuice. Loads of Southern crews are selling kit – because of the clampdowns many people are keeping some best bits of rig for licensed events and selling up their excess kit to raise cash.
An old mate of mine from REading (Dan OOOPS!) is selling his old rig as well. its in the classified sections.

If you don’t know much about sound systems it’s best to start small with a rig that you can add to and expand upon.
It’s been mentioned already but building a system is a good way to get quality and modern designs at a more reasonable price than buying modern, badged designs from retailers. It can be tricky but if you don’t fancy doing it yourself then there are a fair few rig builders cropping up on speakerplans.com that do reasonable deals on cabs.
Alternatively buy second hand from places such as Ebay, Concert Trade, Crystal Pro Audio, BDLM, and forum classifieds.
It’s tricky to give advice about systems as a whole so if you have anything more specific to ask then let us know. In the meantime, research as much as you can by reading speakplans.com (including the helpful FAQ) and other forums such as this and the soundsystem section of squatjuice.com.
