In between the dodgy 5 second clips of teens in dreads with distorted hardstyle soundtracks occasionally you find something that is well constructed and quite interesting.
Its called ‘make some fucking noise’ and is a short documentary a few toronto free party groups. Its worth a watch.

Their idolisation of the european scene is quite interesting.

May 7, 2006 at 12:27 pm #1072517i thought that was quite good maybe we should do something over here
to show we are not just a bunch of cunt making noise im the woods at weekends.:idea:May 7, 2006 at 12:36 pm #1072518Very interesting
wonder how much of a part drugs play in their scene?May 7, 2006 at 12:37 pm #1072514arkadarka wrote:i thought that was quite good maybe we should do something over here
to show we are not just a bunch of cunt making noise im the woods at weekends.:idea:films like this have been made before – they are good for ravers to watch but don’t really convert that many outsiders unless they are already liberal/tolerant.
Both Spiral tribe and Exodus have made similar films which some of the older ones here may have seen. Then core people within both crews destroyed themselves and others through their own lack of self-control.
look at it this way, there is plenty of media for different ethnic groups around, but it hasn’t exactly eliminated racism – in some cases it makes things worse as people get angrier that the minorities dare to express themselves, and there are still the negative aspects such as radical terrorism or involvement in criminality using faith/culture as a smokescreen.
And TBH a lot of people actually are just interested in raves because they are cheaper to attend than gatecrasher, you can do drugs without bouncers and cops hassling you and you are sometimes less likely to get in a fight.
Not a bad thing per se but hardly a world-changing positive social movement.

From the evidence of that video (i am sure that its not even close to the full picture.) the parties seem a far cry from british affairs. I would be interested to know how much of the idealistic talk on the video was for real.

.A friend’s wife is from Canada – a while back I was having a long chat with him about the place and I also used to deal with CBC and their media companies regularly in their last job. I also try to listen to CBC to keep up with my French as well (their broadcasts are bilngual) (although have not been doing this lately)
Canadian cities are much the same as ours, blighted by crime, poverty and addiction with a few more guns thrown in. The countryside can be nice albeit with fairly extreme weather conditions!
We get the occasional Canadian promoter on here (they post in both English and French!) – I get the impression that the sort of people in that country who can afford to go raving are going to be middle class kids with a lot of resources (I expect petrol costs are significant for any kind of social activity in such a large country!)
ISTR their equivalent of Forestry Commission land – “Crown Land” has far less restrictive rules – you can actually legallly have a gathering there for up to something like 3 weeks; provided you don’t trash the environment, set the place on fire and aren’t doing it for money

so they can afford to be a bit idealistic. Mind you with the sheer size of the place they aren’t gonna disturb anyone 😉
