Not only have I signed the petition, I am removing Nortel ( a Canadian based company) from a list of possible suppliers for telecoms equipment to be installed at my employers…
March 30, 2006 at 10:19 am #1069169Anonymoussurely if they were real men who liked clubbing stuff, theyd be fighting each other? but no, pick on something that moves as fast as a pensioner, is the size of a baby, and has absolutly no way of defending itself. wellard.
those bastards need to stop worrying about how tiny their dicks are and get on with life.
oh, and i signed it, natch.
and its really easy to write to your mp on that site too… the letter is alreay written, they work out who your mp is for you, and alll you need to to do is send it by clicking. putting your own paragraph at the beggining or end definitely gives it more wieght tho.
nice one dirt bird. no flies on you!

I don’t want to put a downer on things, but, a petition without a signature and an address is fairly weightless is it not? Anyone can generate a load of email addresses and keep adding new names.
Maybe I’m wrong. I hope I am!

TBH they could do the same with a wordprocessor, database and a few people to scrawl on the pieces of paper. in the high tech age Any petition, campaign, ballot box can be stuffed or spun if people put their mind to it.
The petition is merely a publicity exercise to show Canadians that what they are doing is a Bad Thing and to spread awareness. It is not immediately going to achieve anything other than making more foreigners realise what is going on in that country; the PM will probably only send a spin-doctors letter to the animal rights NGO, if he/she replies at all.
Incidentally (and I mean no offence to Canadians) the country (as in Government/people in power) is fairly faceless and soulless (it is rarely in the news unless the queen is there or it is having some extreme weather. it is a bit like Singapore.
This is dangerous though, as it difficult to find out who has the power in these “faceless” countries – they often attract governments and corporates who do heinous things to human rights and the environment and often go unnoticed unless people like us start taking an interest.
The petition needs to be backed up with other action such as boycotting a product from that nation – Blackberries (the portable computers) are another item made there! and/or by peer pressure (which includes a loss of revenue to businesses in the area) encouraging citizens in the nation to also protest the unacceptable actions.
