October 3, 2005 at 2:45 pm #1067110Hello.
The only organisation I know (which means that it certainly isn’t the only one that exists) is VSO.
A friend of mine used to work for them afer volunteering a lot herself, and said that it’s a REALLY worthwhile experience. She had a few bad things to say about them when she left her job, though, but I think that’s the case with any job.
I don’t know a great deal about it all, but here’s their site –
Hope you save a bit of the world…
October 3, 2005 at 2:47 pm #1067111Hang on – I’ve just read a post by me that I didn’t write. It’s all getting a bit odd here…
The post I meant to write was this –

October 3, 2005 at 3:41 pm #1067105he he no worries, we all go a bit wonky sometimes 😉
October 3, 2005 at 10:53 pm #1067100I’d be too scared of creepy bugs in the rainforest. I’m a serious wimp when it comes to spiders. Shame really, because i’d love the experience but it’s enough to put me off going.

both offer all kinds of planned programmes
or if you’re up for learning some portuguese, my friend Ricardo can take you to Brazil to work with some displaced communities… there are people living in groups of up to 100,000 trying to live from land that they are constantly displaced from by loggers and devlopers
if you could help them you’d be conserving the environment (in a slightly indirect way)
PM me if you want to get involved

October 4, 2005 at 5:08 pm #1067101I’d advise doing some proper research. There’s loads of organisations out there. I jumped on the first one I came across, and it cost me £900 for 2 weeks, plus flights! I’ve been waiting 2 years for it cause i’m too poor to pay off the total.
There’s much cheaper/ longer options around- GAP projects are very good as well.
Have fun!

definately true that, binge
loads of private companies make fat profits out of people who just want to do something worthwhile 👿
£900 for 2 weeks is clearly a scam unless you had chosen to do some kind of intensive high level learning (of a formal kind).. i was in latin america for about 4 months and spent that much, just as a tourist!!
i work for an advisory service for people who want to volunteer… and i have a few friends running small, highly effective international projects that always need volunteers in a very real way… feel free to send me a message if you’re serious about wanting to get involved
