Hi there,
Just wanted to ask all you peeps out there if there is anyone who fits the above criteria, I moved to Brighton about a year ago but unfortunatley have still not hooked up with any drum and bassheads in the area. Whilst I was at uni Reading I had a collective of people to go out with into the same music but now I have none (except boyf-but that doesn’t count!). It would just be nice to have some people to hook up with again and talk fanataically about drum and bass!!

February 18, 2005 at 12:32 am #1063905I’m afraid i’ve given up on dnb- LOVE jungle/ Old Skool dnb, but the new stuff does not do it for me.
However; if you like the big names (and a shed load of attitude, etc!) then check out Legends of the Dark Black every month at the beach. Also there is Meltdown- much the same. They used to do a tues night in the ocean rooms called minimelt, but not sure if that’s still running.
If you want my opinion though- Lunarcy @ the Volks is the best dnb in Brighton- on every fri. All local djs, with occassional big names, although not what you’d imagine (saw Nookie last year). They also do a WICKED jungle night once a month. Nice bunch of lads too…………..
If you ask suspect nicely, he may give you the number for HAVOK- great Drum’n’Bass party system round here. Not been out much recently, but have a few things planned.
Hope this helps…… Have fun!
February 18, 2005 at 12:35 am #1063906Sorry- just realised you were not asking for advice!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t want to talk to me about Drum ‘n’ Bass- its died a horrible death IMO!
February 18, 2005 at 8:21 am #1063904Anonymousi would say it did die (my crew will shoot me for sayin that) but only in one incarnation.
IMO Drum and Bass was only coined because of all the wank media types not getting their head round jungle, not gettin into it, thus proclaiming it dead, while singin the praises of house etc..
to be continued….gotta run
February 18, 2005 at 9:08 am #1063909eeek, I don’t get too political about drum and bass I just like it, pretty much all incarnations of it, but espec the new-ish stuff thats dark and dirty. Sorry if that’s not popular opinion! Mmm, I will have to try and get that telephone no. you mentioned! Yeah I’ve checked out a few of those nights you mentioned, went to a really good legends of the dark night at zap a while ago. So what you into these days then?

February 18, 2005 at 10:37 am #1063901AnonymousIn brighton? Spend most of my time at psy-trance nights/ the occassional tekno evening. Psy-trance pulls the biggest crowds around here- and the music can be good (if you’re drunk enough!) Plus the atmosphere is electric.
Back home I tend to play old skool hardcore at our parties (91-93), which IMO is the ultimate. But generally anything with a decent beat…..
And I know what you mean, if i’m going to a dnb night, then the dirtier and darker the better- there is some better stuff coming through at the moment, I think its heading back underground…..
I just hate the attitude at most dnb nights……….
February 18, 2005 at 10:39 am #1063907sorry, that was me!!!!!!
February 18, 2005 at 10:49 am #1063910I never find the attitude too bad at dnb nights although some places are better than others. Bassheads at the matrix in Reading always used to have a fab ravey atmosphere. I quite like the mix of people that dnb draws in as well, a chav to your right and a dude with dreads to your left! The worst atmosphere I ever experienced was fabric, I hated it, there just wasn’t a friendly vibe and everyone was just dressed to impress.
