I just heard that london underground r goin on strike nye!! any1 know anything about this?
December 22, 2004 at 10:18 pm #1063368I’ve just checked TfL and ASLEF sites (the tube management and trade unions) and all I can see is a strike for Xmas Eve which only affects the picadilly line.
The was a warning from the union the strike may escalate but no specific warning of action on NYE.
the number 020 7222 1234 should also give announcements if any strike or disruption is happening.

(go to news and press/latest)
latest info, and both sides of the story. I hope they do not strike on NYE, but OTOH I can understand why they are striking!
welcome to partyvibe BTW 🙂

December 23, 2004 at 12:31 pm #1063369latest update – RMT union have now confirmed NYE strike
2004-12-31 (NYE) and 2005-01-04 (as of yesterday talks were still ongoing and they hadn’t had the strike ballot vote in)
Note to editors:If today’s talks fail to make significant progress, RMT signals and line control staff at LUL will not book on for shifts due to begin between noon on December 31 and noon on January 1 2005, and between 21:00 on January 3 and 21:00 on Januaryhttp://www.rmt.org.uk/C2B/PressOffice/display.asp?ID=1154&Type=2
talks are still ongoing though so maybe the strike could be averted but I wouldn’t count on it 🙁
its annoying for me as well as I don’t have a car and my friends who drive may not be in the area for NYE – OTOH it is their right to strike, I agree that 12 hours is way too long a shift for being in a signal box when every1s safety is at stake – what’s missing out on one party compared to thousands of peoples safety on the underground?
December 23, 2004 at 12:57 pm #1063370the deadline for talks is 15:00 today, if there is no agreement strike goes ahead – will keep everyone informed..
December 23, 2004 at 4:26 pm #106337116:25 update – talks deadline was extended to 16:00 – no further info from any media sources.
December 23, 2004 at 5:59 pm #1063372update 17:43
- A final decision on whether the NYE strike (which will affect the entire Underground service) goes ahead is has been held over until Friday morning (xmas eve 2004-12-24), RMT and LU management are holding further talks
- The strike on the Picadilly line on Christmas Eve will still go ahead.
Details at link below http://tube.tfl.gov.uk/content/pressreleases/0412/22.asp - In all cases London Buses will continue running (although they will of course be more crowded!) maps and info here http://www.tfl.gov.uk/buses/
For night buses - http://www.tfl.gov.uk/buses/spiders/night.shtml
- The info line is 020 7222 1234 or 00(+) 44 20 7222 1234
for buses only though, not for parties 😀
December 24, 2004 at 2:23 pm #1063373STRIKE IS OFF! – last minute deal over pay and hours reached –
tubes are running on NYE
but the workers don’t have to do longer hours in signal boxes (tired people make mistakes – and you cannot afford to make them in the signal box!)
SAFE! – well done to both the unions and LU for reaching a consensus and not causing problems to everyone over the holiday season..

following from TfL site (they haven’t updated it properly yet)
Following detailed discussions between London Underground and all the Trades Unions today, the RMT have advised that the strikes planned for New Year’s Eve/ New Year’s Day, and the 3 and 4 January, have been suspended. [/quote]
