Technics have long been the choice for anyone serious about their decks but the TTx1’s by numark are craeting a stir…

      • digital pitch
      • lcd display
      • interchangable tone arms
      • more torque than a tractor

one of my mates has got a set and they SO powerful it is nearly impossible to slow the platter even slightly during cueing or scatching, combined with a faultlessly accurate pitch control they are definatly my favourite.

      So what do you reckon?
      Technics or numark?

1200’s to me are like a classic car to a car enthusiast. Which means i’ll choose them over anything everytime. That doesn’t mean to say I don’t think other decks can surpass them technically…. it means i’m just a geek who loves 1200’s.

The Numark decks certainly look good on paper but I can’t comment any further because I haven’t used them.

Something I have heard though is this:
The high powered vestax and numark motors are less accurate when slowing down in the mix due to the high torque. In other words when you are slowing the platter down with your fingers the torque is so much that when you release you get a kind of sling shot effect and therefore this makes it less accurate for cueing when pitching down.

numarks dont have an earth and sound a bit shitty on a rig, but otherwise they are like vestax but nicer, platter is more sturdy etc. For bedroom use they are ideal however now the technics MK5G are out, and they “look” like they kick ass although ive never seen em for real. I suppose they are just gunna be like technics but better!!
They would certainly sort out those pre party debates between the Dnb and Tekno Dj’s. No more ranting “they dont go fast enuf” all them tekky hedz!

Is it worth the cash though… and was it worth bringing out the Technics MK3D???? I mean what was the point, i bought a pair and feel totally ripped off now coz had i waited 6 months i could have put in the extra cash and got a spanking pair of MK5’s with a better pitch and been able to mix so many more tunes together!!

Maybe ill put that to technics, dirty bastards!

See you at the nxt Par T.

IT GOTTA B TECHNICS . I HAVNT USED NUMARKS MY SELF BUT A FEW OF MY M8’S HAV USED THEM IN THE CLUBS THEY HAV PLAYED @ AND THEY ALWAYS DREDD THE THOUGHT OF HAVING TO USE THEM AGAIN. THEY SAID THEY WOULD RATHER USE A SET OF BELT DRIVES.

I had exactly this problem a few months ago. basically it comes down to personal taste, you have to go out there and try out the decks to see which feels best to you. In the end i went for 1210 MK5’s but it all depends on want you want.

Technics have the benefit of their build qaulity and feel (there is no accounting for feel and i think technics are better than any other here) and their wow and flutter scores are unbeatable.

The TTX-1’s do have a much better pick-up but i have never really seen the benefit of this (possibly if your a hip hop DJ…) as it is a matter of 1/4 of a second. The major advantage of the TTX-1’s is the +-50 pitch range which will allow you to mix a range of different styles of music together and be a little more creative (particuarly use for a breakbeat DJ…) but you need to be aware that when using the pitch in +-50 you will lose a lot of your fine tuninng making spot on beat mixing very difficult. In addition the digital output’s very useful if you want to hook up your decks to your computer etc…
Personally i dont like the LED display and would rather not be told the BPM of the records im play but thats a matter of taste.

For people who have been DJ’ing for anything longer than 5 years or so technics will always be number 1…and although they are technically outperformed by a lot of decks now there is still something about them thats different, difficult to put into words..
If you play out alot then I would head for technics as pretty much every club in the world uses them…

but you just need to go and try them out…try

technics (all MKs and models), ttx-1’s, pt 2000’s and the new stantons (which seem a nice mix between technics and numarks but are bloody expensive..)

they are all good – thats the honest answer and they all have features that are different, it just comes down to personal taste…

numarks are alright if youre predominantly going to be spinning hiphop. technics are ideal if youre into techno, but if you dont want to spend that much i started out with geminis and they were ok.

technics have that solidness to them that makes them the decks of choice, but they are a bit pricey for a lot of people, especially if you’re only going to use them at home.

if you need to cart them around, technics just feel more able to sustain the occasional knock.

I have a pair of Numark TT1625. For home decks they are ideal. the platter picks up as quick as 1210’s, but the torque is quite manageable, giving a smooth ride during those fine touches. The pitch control has less drag than technics, so you need to be a little bit ore careful than with technics.

I picked them up second-hand-nearly-new with a Vestax Pcv 275 mixer for £300. can’t argue with that.

                        😎
